Answers to some frequently asked questions about SWAT are shown below.
Q: How is SWAT funded?
A: We get funds from donations by individuals, local businesses and from our own fund-raising activities, e.g., the sale of SWAT calendars, Christmas cards, bramble jelly, bird-boxes, etc. SWAT is a Scottish Charitable Incorporated Organization (SCIO).
Q: When are the ‘work days’?
A: The ‘work days’ are noted on the SWAT calendar and are normally on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month from 9.30 am to 11.30 am. Please note that this may change around the Christmas and New Year holiday period. During 2021, arrangements are highly likely to change due to the need to comply with Scottish government instructions and recommendations to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus.
Q: Where do you meet for ‘work days’?
A: We have two shipping containers at the western end of the lane which runs parallel to and to the north of Montgomerie Drive in Stewarton. They are near the entrance to Lainshaw Woods where the road turns down to Scottish Water’s Treatment Plant.
Q: When and where are regular organizational meetings held?
A: Meetings to discuss current and future activities are normally held in The Cottage at John Knox Church on the last Monday of each month commencing at 7.30 pm and usually lasting until around 9.00 pm. During 2021, due to the need to comply with legal requirements and official guidance to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus, it is likely that meetings will be held by videoconference using the ZOOM online service.
Q: When is SWAT’s AGM?
A: It usually takes place in March each year. After a firm date is fixed this is normally intimated on this website and on our Facebook page.
Q: Does SWAT own Lainshaw Woods?
A: No. The woods are the property of local landowners.
Q: Is there a membership fee to ‘join’ SWAT?
Q: Why am I redirected to swat.org.uk?
A: If you visit www.stewartonwoodlands.co.uk you will automatically be redirected to the corresponding page on our new www.swat.org.uk website. We control both domain names. stewartonwoodlands.co.uk is a ‘domain alias’ of swat.org.uk.
Q: Are there any employment vacancies at SWAT?
A: No. SWAT is a registered charitable organisation managed by volunteers. It has no employees.
Q: How do I make a donation to SWAT?
A: Please get in touch with the trustees using the details shown on our Contact page. Other ways of supporting SWAT include buying our annual SWAT calendar and using easyfundraising.org.uk to generate donations from retailers when shopping online.
